Policies
Knots & Matted Coats
Generally, knots (which are smaller than a 50 pence piece) can be carefully brushed out of your pet’s coat. If there is significant matting which is difficult to remove, your pet may require shaving and you will be required to sign our ‘Matted Dog Disclaimer’ form and may be charged a matted dog fee (£10-15). In the case of significant matting we will always put the dogs welfare first.
Fleas
We ask that all our clients are up to date with flea and worming prevention. If fleas are found on your dog, we will not be able to start the groom. If fleas are found during the groom, we will have to stop the groom and the dog will need to be picked up as soon as possible. We will still charge the full price of the appointment. This is charged as we have lost the income we would have had if we were able to do a full groom and we must do additional cleaning/disinfecting of the premises and equipment.
Lateness/Cancellations/Missed Appointments
If you are late for your appointment, please be aware that we may not be able to groom your dog as we may not have time to complete the groom before the next dog arrives. If this is the case, you may need to pay in full, in advance, to book back in.
If you are late picking up your dog after the scheduled time. We reserve the right to charge a holding fee of £5 for every additional 15 minutes your dog is in our care.
Any cancellations on the same day of the appointment or after 5.00 pm (the day before) may require payment of a £20 cancellation fee to rebook another appointment.
If an appointment is missed completely, we may charge half the cost of the groom that should have taken place and/or full payment in advance to rebook another appointment.
FAQ's
What are your Opening hours?
We are open 9am-5pm Tuesday – Saturday.
How do I book?
You can give us a call on 07983 853032 or 0115 6483245. We don’t have a dedicated receptionist so if we don’t answer, please leave us a voicemail and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can. You can also message us on our facebook (https://www.facebook.com/DogzGroomingStudio), instagram (@dogz_grooming_studio) or email dogzgroomingstudio@gmail.com. Please see our contact us section for more details.
Do you have parking?
Unfortunately we do not have dedicated parking, however there is free parking for two hours in the car park behind the Ernehale Wetherspoons pub and above the B&M Store (formerly Wilkos). These are only a couple of minutes walk to the salon.
How long in advance should I book my appointment?
We always recommend booking in advance when possible. We would recommend at least 2 weeks notice for week day appointments and at least 3 weeks for a Saturday. For our busier periods the wait can be longer, especially around Christmas.
What to expect on the first visit?
When you first arrive you will need to ring the doorbell to be let in. This is just a little extra security and peace of mind as all the dogs we look after are so very precious. We have a new client form for you to fill in. We will then have a consultation to discuss how you would like your dog groomed. We’ll give you an estimate of how long the groom will take but can give you a call with 10 minutes notice for pick up.
How often should my dog be groomed/nails clipped?
We recommend dogs to be groomed every 4-8 weeks to keep looking fresh and fab and to prevent matted coats. If you do wish to leave it longer, we do recommend that you don’t go longer than 12 weeks as your dog may get matted and dirt can cause irritation to the skin.
Can I stay with my dog when they’re being groomed?
We usually say it’s best to leave the dog in our safe hands. Sometimes being able to see their guardian but not be able to get to them can cause the dog more stress than comfort. We always say it’s like dropping your kids off at nursery, they seem all nervous and shy when you’re there but as soon as your gone their making themselves at home and gaining new friends.
Do you have any items for sale?
Yes! We have a range of stock including dog perfumes, collars, dog safe toiletries and gift cards.
How do I prevent matting?
We are full of advice for preventing matting, so please never hesitate to ask! Here are a few quick tips to get you started:
-
Stay on schedule! For those wanting a longer coat, we recommend every 4-6 weeks for a full groom and for shorter coats we recommend every 6-8 weeks for a full groom. Even if you don’t think your dog needs much off, you can always give us a call and change your appointment to a bath and a brush. This will help us spot any knots forming and either remove them or we can let you know where more focus needs for brushing and combing.
-
Brush AND comb your dog daily. We’re happy to show you tips for line brushing and which brushes and combs we’d recommend specifically for your dog. Metal combs are so important as you can use these to check that the fur has been brushed enough, they should be able to be brushed out from the skin to the end of the coat. The most common areas that we see matting are behind the ears, in the “armpits”, where the collar and harness sit and the paws.
-
Give your dog breaks from wearing their collar, harness and coats when at home. These can all cause friction which then can lead to matting. Also, a quick brush where these sit after a walk, especially a wet walk, can help prevent matting.
Are there any dogs you don’t groom?
Unfortunately there are a few reasons why we may not be able to groom your dog:
-
Poorly or pregnant dogs. Unfortunately this can be too risky and may cause more harm than good. We will not groom any pregnant or possibly pregnant dogs as grooming whilst pregnant can cause serious risk to the pups. For poorly dogs, it depends on the severity and whether they are infectious to other dogs or humans. If your dog is under the weather grooming can be very stressful and uncomfortable so it’s usually best to rearrange once they’re feeling better. For more long term illnesses, we will follow your vets advice and will do what we believe is best for the welfare of your dog
-
Dogs who have fleas or are unvaccinated. We also ask that all dogs who come to us are checked regularly for fleas and are on flea and worm prevention. If fleas are found on your dog they will be sent home immediately and you will still be charged for the groom, even if the groom was not able to be completed.
-
Stress or aggression. We at Dogz aim to keep a calm atmosphere and love working with dogs to make things as stress free as possible. If your dog does struggle, we are happy to come up with a care plan to help desensitise your dog to the grooming process. However sometimes we may find the grooming process is too stressful for your dog, we will put the dogs welfare first and send them home.

They are a banned breed including XL Bullies. Whilst we do not agree with BSL and would love to be able to give every dog the pamper they deserve, our insurance does not cover banned breeds. We are looking into changing this and will update this page if we are able to start grooming banned breeds.
